This product worked great on my sister's sugar ants in her house---she had two different exterminators come in over 3 or 4 months and could not get rid of them....borax and honey mix didn't work long but this stuff worked in a few days. Could have saved hundred's of dollars.

They sell it a home centers, hardware stores or Walgreens drug store.
I highly recommend it...just watch for a trail of ants coming and going and try to see where they come in---then place a trap there for a few days---they take the bait back to the nest and feed it to the other worker ants and the queen---pretty soon, they'll be gone. They do a thing called " budding " where if one nest is threatened, they will branch off to make a new nest so you'll have to keep looking for them for a while.

This gonna sound crazy but if you haven't had a lot of rain recently the ants will go inside the home searching for water. I had this problem last year when we got very little rain. When I would thoroughly water the lawn they would leave the house and take up shop outside. Where I could use ortho ant killer and i finally got rid of them. But every time we went a long time without rain I would get ants in the house

There are not any preventative products on the market that a homeowner can buy that are effective. As far as things you can do,Eliminate conducive conditions,Make sure there is no wood-soil contact, trees touching the home, moisture conditions in the home or against it,rotten wood is replaced and sealed, mulch is not piled against the house, and firewood is stored away from the home. The only products that will work are done by a professional,do not take shortcuts in protecting your home.Call a Pest Control Professional and have a proper treatment performed. The best products are baits.Sprays just scatter the ants and will result in a larger infestation

We had a major ant problem in our last apartment. We found the best thing was to get those ant bait traps and set them out. It never got rid of them 100%, but it did keep them to a manageable level. We tried several brands - they all worked about the same and would knock out a major infestation in a day or two (but, like I said, never get rid of them 100%).
I've heard other people recommend finding where they are coming in and blocking that up, but we were in an old basement apartment and could never block up all the spots we found.
Other advice is keep the kitchen clean and keep food storage, especially sugar, in sealed plastic containers. This doesn't get rid of them either but does keep them from ruining your food.
If you want to spray a whole bunch at once we found that common bleach kitchen cleaner kills the ants real well without leaving that icky chemical smell in your house.
Eventually the solution that worked the best was moving. :)

It does depend on where you live and what species of ant they are.
Let me assume they are sugar eating ants, the best way to get rid of them is to use a product called Exterm-an-ant, it is made by Ruddocks in Australia, it works by feeding the ants a poison that is slow acting, the ants have enough time to digest the poison before they regurgitate the poison onto the nest wall for the juvenile ants to eat, the ants and the juvenile ants then die, the queen ant has no workers and she dies too.
Good luck

Go to your local nursery/plant shop and buy a Venus Fly Trap plant. Ants are attracted the sticky substances they generate and you will get rid of them very quickly.
The Fly Trap also makes a very interesting conversation piece.
