Chicago in 1935 with ties counting as losses 21 and with ties being OK, the New York Giants in 1916 with 26. Closest in present day is Oakland in 2002 with 20.

Frankly i have never myself understood the criteria behind this, for example the Tampa Bay rays are 20 games over 500 at home and 5 games under on road. I guess at home, with the crowd behind the team, players tend to elevate their game to send their fans home happy. But i dont see any reason why teams shouldnt do that at road as well.
