I initially offered a facetious answer because your question is rather peculiar...
what are you hoping to "get" out of playing bass guitar?
You should only pursue learning a musical instrument if you truly love music and have an interest in that specific instrument and at least one of the genres of music in which it is used.
If that is your motivation, then you will gain the fulfillment of developing skills that allow you to reproduce some of your favorite pieces, and perhaps eventually to create your own original works.
Should you develop truly proficient skills, you may find yourself in a band and performing in front of audiences. Some musicians (and other performing artists) find the audience approval very rewarding, while others are shy or self-conscious and don't really like having 'fans'.
Every person has their own motivations and rewards (so only you can answer that), but it's really all about the music.

Dude, play what feels right. Pick up a guitar fool around with it for a while, and then do the same with a bass. You can go to your local Guitar Center. I tested Basses and amps for like 2 hours once and was never bothered. As for wanting to be a leading player download some Marcus Miller(bassist) he is definitely the leading player in all his songs. Also i don't know if your into metal, but check out Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne. He's one of those bassists that if he didn't play the songs would sound completely different, so bass bass is equally as important as guitar if not more. I tried playing electric guitar and it wasn't for me, but you should play what feels right. If you choose bass, I would suggest a Ibanez as your first. Like a BTB or an SR series. Good Luck

Really good bass players are worth their weight in gold bro....They don't get the glory like singers and guitarists but if your bass player sucks then chances are your band does too.

You are probably foing to be the least popular member of the band, unless you are REALLY good. Joey DeMaio is a perfect example of how a bassist can really get the spotlight.

Depends on what you want, if all you care about is the partying and the groupies you'll burn out quick.
If it's a love of music, then it will be a lifelong passion. I used to wake up and pick it up to play a song I played in my dreams.

Easy, enjoyment, you play it because you love it, as I do with guitar, but play when you want, don't mke it a routine.
