I have memories of watching the edited version of "Animal House" when I was a kid. Does anyone know what movie was the first to get the "edited for TV" treatment?

You know, this may be a case where you maybe should not rely on Wikipedia. I've found more than one website that The Seven Year Itch. The entry on Wikipedia contains the notation "citation needed", which probably means the author copied the claim from another website and hasn't verified the information.

When you say "edited for television", I presume you mean edited for content. Movies can also be edited for length and because of the different aspect between movies in a theater and movies shown on TV. I'm sure that other theatrical movies were edited for TV before The 7 Year Itch using the other criteria.

So far, I have not found any sources to confirm that information in the Wikipedia article about The 7 Year Itch.

I think that every time a movie comes out, especially those geared toward children, that features a certain breed of dog, it damages the breed. If only by the fact that it ups the demand for that breed, so the puppy farms work harder to churn more pups out faster to take advantage of the hype while it lasts and the breed as a whole suffers. Not to mention 6 months to a year later when the kids have moved on to something else, and the cute puppy is now a dog, and maybe the dog ends up in a shelter somewhere. Do your homework folks!! Not every breed is for every owner!! I have kids comment every day that Misty is a "Snow Dog", no telling how many Sibes were purchased for their looks after that movie and "8 Below" made them look so appealing. When you watch a movie with perfectly trained, gorgeous dogs you might get deluded into thinking that they are super easy to take care of, but the movie doesn't show all the negative qualities. I love my girl, but she is a rescue that someone else bought and dumped...maybe they watched a movie first...

The first current known film that was "edited for telivision" was a movie that was known as Seven Year Itch. Seven Year Itch, the movie, was first designed in 1955. Three actors include:
(Key: Actor - Role)
"Marilyn Monroe - The Girl"
"Tom Ewell - Richard Sherman"

According to the following website, http://www.amazon.com/Marilyn-Special-Anniversary-Collection-Gentlement/dp/B000EMGJAY , it says that it was "the incomplete film which they remastered & edited into a short".

I dont know if im right or not. I believe Gone with the wind was the first show every fined by the FCC.

So I assume it would of had to be put on TV to get the fine.
