because as humans we have been instilled with the belief that the only one you can trust is yourself. when we finally can trust that someone's love for us is unconditional, can we finally lose the need for the constant reminders of our love.

Why should you have to prove your love over and over? Most of the time it's because the person has no belief in them selves so that they find it hard to believe that someone else can care for them. I once asked someone I cared for a lot who was an acholohlic why he didn't believe that I loved him and he looked at me and said that if he couldn't love himself why would he trust that anyone else would love him. Another person that I knew put it this way if I don't think that I'm worth it than either you're lying or your stupid either way why should I trust what you say? That was when I understood why some people find it hard to believe that others care for them when they don't care for them selves.

Every one needs to know that they are loved. Sometimes they just need to be reminded because every relationship falls into a rut and that reminder pulls them out of it. I have found when you need to prove your love to someone over and over again it means that they have insecurities. The problem with them is that they feel that they don't deserve you and that they are afraid of losing something they will never find again causing them to be clingy, protective, jealous, and/or defensive when it comes down to it. The longer your together and he is reassured that you love him and only him then it will lighten up. Take it as a form of flattery.

I guess people can fall out of love... and so proving you love them makes them feel more secure that you still love them and are not wanting to wander.

you don't have to and if someone asks that of you, dump them, because they are insecure and proving you love them over and over will not make them MORE secure. It might compound the problem, because that 'hole' they have can never be filled.
Needy, is needy, is more needy...

we don't all have to prove. may be when you find that someone you'll understand that you do it because you love them. not because you want to prove anything.
