He was a young man who was killed for being gay by some tough guys in Laramie, Wyoming about 9 years ago. The play "The Laramie Project" was written about the murder and the trial.

Matthew Sheppard was a young gay boy, late teens or early twenties I think, who was brutally murdered by two guys just because he was gay. A movie was made about his story, "The Laramie Project". I know this because my cousin, Kelli, was a big role in the movie and helped write it. It is a very sad story.

He was an innocent victim of a horrible hate crime, simply because he was gay. What happened to him was just awful. How God used that terrible situation however, was that many people's eyes have been opened to how pervasive hatred and bigotry is in this country and many people are working harder than ever to change that, as a result of what happened to this poor guy. Hatred and bigotry exists in a variety of ways and is directed to many groups of people. If anything positive can come out of the brutal murder of this young man, I would hope it is that people are working harder to encourage acceptance of others and punishments are becoming stiffer for hate crimes.

Yeah. I remember reading several times. He was a gay man who was beaten and tied to a fence by some men who were acting gay. [ I think that's how it went ] Very sad story. :[

Wasn't he the boy in, like Montana or someplace like that, who was murdered for being gay.

He was the gay young man who was beaten to a pulp then tied to a fence post and died from his beating.
After his death government pushed for stronger laws against all hate crimes.

He was a homosexual who was tortured and killed because of it. I attended a play called "The Laremie Project" for college, great and tragic show.
