Bangalore happens to be third busiest airport in India, with only Delhi and Mumbai handling more flights. 300 daily movements and over 7.5 million passengers every year. Add to this the military aircrafts flying and Bangalore easily overshadows the Chennai airport.
In trains, Chennai scores.

Chennai(MAA) handles 178 arrilvals a day where as Bangalore (BLR) handles 165 flights a day. Refer the source.
Naturally Chennai handles more air passengers.
For train passengers, Chennai is a clear winer as the number of trains originating and passing by Chennai is much more to Bangalore

Busiest airport is typically computed as the amount of time a flight waits to land, take off etc and is not a measure of the number of flight itself. Since Bangalore doesn't have a great airport infrastrucuture most of flights take longer to land/take off - hence the busiest airport tag.
If you go by th enumber of flights Chennai has more than Bangalore.
