The player are not playing for the love of the game and the hogh level of competition. Its about the money from contracts and endorsement. After they get the solid contracts, if they play, fine, and if they don't, well they know they will still get paid. Sports across the board is watered down.

First of all, true sport is doing a physical activity for the sheer fun or pleasure of doing the activity. Team sport involves teamwork, helping one another to achieve a common goal, and participation along with constant practice with a goal or intent of trying to excel at a skill or activity.
Professional sports have the goal of money first, sport last. Pro teams are out to sell tickets to the stadium and plenty of advertising on televised games, in order to earn their salaries. Actually playing the game comes second. Win or lose, pro team get paid money.
In order to win at the pro level, cheating is rampant, whether it be modified equipment or steroids. This has filtered down to the college and high school level, as players do anything it takes to win, to get noticed by scouts, to get signed up with a pro team or major sponsors. It has even filtered down to elementary school and peewee leagues, where parents push their kids to excel at sports at an early age in order to get college scholarships.
They all have dollar signs in their eyes, which has nothing to do with the true meaning of sport.
