I am a christian and I support gay rights. My belief for marrige is that if two guys love each other than let them get married. I am confused when it comes to what God wants and my friends all are totally against it! So I'd like to know why everyone isn't supportive of Gay Rights and what God would think of me for supporting their rights.

you're a christian, and you therefore believe in the teachings of Jesus. Now, in the new testament, there are stories where Jesus not only defended those the public believed to be "undesirable/sinful" but furthermore encouraged the public to accept them.
when he saved the lady who was going to be stoned to death: her crime was adultery, one of the top sins (10 commandments). What did Jesus do? he told them to stop, he said "thou without sin may cast the first stone." According to the New Testament, he was the only human to not have sinned. Because of that, he had every right to chuck a stone at her. But he didn't.
What I'm getting to is, according to Christianity, Jesus spoke God's word directly. If Jesus isn't going to persecute people who commit a crime, what right does anybody else?
Now, i'm not going to argue whether homosexuality is a crime against humanity, because anybody with a little bit of common sense knows that it's not something that's chosen. On a religious level, God's not going to punish you for something that his own son did: defending somebody that a handful of people don't like. He doesn't do double standards anymore...that's the old testament god lol..seriously, though, everybody has rights. you defending somebody else's right to equality is not only the right thing to do in society, but also God would be applauding you for standing up for fellow human beings.

God is not against gay people. God does not hate or discrimate against gays. Christians do. (i'm not saying ONLY Christians do but this is the religion you used in your question). And i'm guessing you believe in Jesus and the bible and all that. Well, i believe the bible was simply written by man with no divine influence with the sole purpose of controlling the masses. Since you're a Christian I'm assuming you DO believe in the bible. Well, Jesus never said anything negative about gay people. And also think of other things that the bible says that people no longer live by today b/c it's just outdated and does not fit with the worlds progress. The bible says it's ok to have slaves. Do you think its ok? I doubt it. The bible says it's an abomination to wear more than one different type of fabric at once. Hmm.. i think we got rid of that one a long time ago. Think about these things. Most if not all organized religions use that book only to fit and persue the agenda they are after in a certain time frame. People pick the passages they want to believe and discard others that just don't fit. So why haven't we discarded the supposed anti gay stuff but we have discarded other nonsence? Try to use logic. Listen to your heart. I am a lesbian and I know I am a good person. I seriously doubt got cares about sexual orientation. He has much bigger things to worry about than that. Sexual orientation is simply a human preoccupation. If we learn to look past silly things like this than the world will slowly begin to become a better more loving place to live in.

Oh, and for the people who equate homosexuals with murders and pedaphiles.. are you freaking kidding me? Can you seriously not see the difference. Someone being gay and loving another concenting adult of the same sex does not hurt anyone. Pedophiles hurt children. Murders hurt the people they murder. Homosexuals do not hurt anyone. The last time a checked love was not a crime. It makes me so sad to see people we seriously believe homosexuality is on the same level as murder. Please use your heads here.

I think the answer to your question is actually really easy.

The Church has historically a horrible track record for interpeting God's will.

In the past priests and Christians would burn people alive saying it was the will of God.

Not too long ago they claimed that God hates Blacks because their black skin was the Mark of Cain. So it is God's will for Blacks to be slaves.

At some point left handed people where considered to be evil because Jesus sits on the Right hand of God. The left was thought to be the hand of Satan.
Christians would tie the left hand of left-handed people behind their backs and force them to write only with the right hand.

Some left handed people where killed and tortured by Christians who claimed that it was the unmistakable will of God.

Today the Chuch once again says that it is the will of God to hate.

Just think of where those Christians of the past are today. Are they in Heaven or in Hell.

You can be sure the modern Christians who again follow teachings of hate and bigotry will go to the same place.

Perfectly ok to support gay rights. A lot of times people will have their own interpretation of the word of God. I am a Catholic and happen to believe that God loves all people, and I think very highly of you for supporting gay rights as a Christian.

I am pretty neutral on gay rights. I support it because if two people fo the same gender love each other and want to get married, they can they can deal with their fate, and I think god will understand if they really do love each other. But I do not support it because, god created Adam and Eve and they had children and there children had children and there children's children had children and so on......I dont really know how to explain in, really but...........To answer your question i dont really know god i dont know what he would think of you, i know it sounds silly but just talk to him, and tell him how you feel about it, see how you feel about if afterwards.

Goodluck

I say this. I dont know much about the bible's take on sexual preferances. But either way, just be kind. I beleive that god makes the final decisions. So if people like me are going to hell in a hand basket, then thats his to decide. Dont judge what you cant be sure of.

One last thing, keep in mind the differences of how people responded to this question, with hate for your mere question, versus openess, and attempts at answering it.

I don't believe God would promote hate. I think people use God as an excuse to discriminate against something they are not familiar with and nothing more. Therefore I believe they are in the wrong for hating another human being on the basis of who they love.

Good for you for sticking to what you believe. I think God would proud of you for being accepting.

I think God will certainly love you. Nooone really knows what God will allow like if he will allow homosexuality even though he is against it, because he's agaisnt a lot of stuff but noone really knows what he'll accept. But yeah he probably enjoys you respecting others no matter what/who they are.

And thank you for your support!

of course its ok everyone has the right to love, be it the same or the opposite sex.
and everyone should have the opportunity to get married.
and i think god loves every one of his children just as he made them.
so i think its very brave of you too support gay rights even tho your friends are against it.

It says in the bible (not in these exact words) That it is wrong for a man to be with a man and same goes for women. I have no problem with the gay community but I think it is a bad example for young children for gay and lesbian couples to marry. Its good that you want to help and support people but its also encouringing sinful behaviour. Would you give the same support to a murderer? Although it is a bigger sin it is still a sin. You should try to encourage them to change there lifstyle, that way your trying to help and supporting a better cause.
