Depends on your level of swimming. For some people, like me, I can swim against the current and touch the wall- therefore defeating the purpose. Once someone gets to a certain strength/level of swimming, these pools don't accomplish anything.

For competitive endurance athletes endless pools are a great training tool. The adjustable current allows you to simulate current you will face in open water and allows you to swim distances without losing momentum due to turning which in turn helps the swimmer train their pace.
Thereputic swimming and aqua therapy candidates also benefit from endless pools. The adjustable current allows low-impact resistence therapy for the elderly, those recovering from injury and those with physical handicaps that might not allow them to do resistence activities otherwise.
Endless pools are not huge, quite the contrary. The pools are small enough to accomodate people whose homes cannot fit a larger, standard pool. A standard endless pool measures 8' X 15' but they can be made to specification by certain companies.
For a casual swimmer or family fun, an endless pool may not be the best option. However, for a serious athlete or someone with limited space who desires their own private lap swim, an endless pool may be just the thing!

Try playing in some local tournaments to see how you match up against other players. If you do well you may be ready to gamble. It is very possible to make money gambling even if it is against a better player, never be afraid to ask for a spot, or to take a spot, and use caution when giving a spot, remember it is always about the money.

I think it doesn't matter the size(length) of the pool. But depth and width matters. 6-7ft deep pools for me are the best! :)
