If you saw a fireball meteor, you should report it to American Meteor Society.

Even if it was just a little one, it's good practice for the one time in your life when you see a really big one.

Check out my illustration of the one I saw two years ago. It skipped at least three times across the waves on the Pacific Ocean.

Shooting stars are local events, visible for people within a radius of maybe 30 - 50 miles at most. They are small rocks entering the atmosphere and burning up from friction. They aren't visible for a long time or at very far distances.
