My girlfriend and I are not dirty people, yet our bathtub collects dirt rather quickly. The tub is usually very dirty after only a couple of days, and it's not like we're outside all day getting dirty (alright, we have boring office jobs).

We just moved into the apartment and are renting, so I'm not sure what the problem could be.

Could it be the material that the tub is constructed of? Is there a cleaning agent that can prevent the build up? Please answer with any helpful products or tips that could help us.

Thanks!

ps - I welcome the jokes...I realize this question opens up for a lot of material ;)

All joking aside, if the tub is old the finish is worn... About once a week give it a good scrub with soft scrub cleaner.... Once a month I fill the tub up with super hot water and add 1 c. bleach. This will help the soap scum/it will keep the drain clear.... If you feel really adventurous you can use automotive wax and give your tub a coat of wax the dirt will just wipe away for a month or so.....good luck..

It sounds like your tub finish is gone. Try using comet or tilex spray cleaner once a week. You will need to leave it on for a few minutes before scrubbing it out. You could also buy a daily shower spray, like arm & hammer clean shower. This is sprayed after every shower use. This may be a pain in the neck but, nobody likes a ring around the tub.

I don't know what could be causing this but I can imagine how frustrating that could be because NOBODY likes to clean bathrooms & when you get a tub like that..I'm sure it only makes the "job" more exciting to go do right! (kidding) I'll tell you what I do on occasions when I really want my tub clean. Don't worry there only involves one good scrubbing!
1.) Tilex scrub cleanser. "spray on & use scrub brush" This will clean tub.
2.) Bleach mixed with water "in spray bottle, spray all over tub & let set for a good hour & wash off. This will take whatever was left behind.
3.) Tilex spray. (not scrub cleanser but the leave on spray) just spray on & leave it so it makes your tub get rid of any residue, leaves shine & makes bathroom smell really clean! After you do this you should be good to go & then you can just use the Tilex "spray" whenever you get out of the tub when your finished & this will keep you from any major scrubbing & cleaning! I love Tilex & this is what seems to work for me.

It sounds like you have hard water. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works really good on the soap scum looking dirt. I have hard water and I don't wear my glasses in the shower, but every 4-5 days I can see it especially around my drain. It looks like dirt but it is from the hard water. I just keep an eraser in my shower and sometimes just scrub the floor with my foot while I am showering. Bleach can cause lung irritation and is not good for the environment. Good Luck!

It sounds like mosts apartment tubs. The finish is gone. About all you can do is to scrub it weekly with Comet or Ajax. That way you know it is clean. After that you can spray it with a good bathroom cleaner for in between cleanings.
