Its called disability because 6 weeks after having a baby you are considered disabled by the state, 8 weeks if you have a c-section. And they pay you 65% of your pay for the past 8 weeks.

im aware that your giving 3 months after you have the baby to still have your job. But almost every state pays you disability for 6-8 weeks after having a baby for your recovery time. Its not threw your job. I bet many women dont even know about this and they miss out on money while recovery

Are you disabled? I don't understand how you can get disability if you are working at a job right now. Could you give some more details maybe?

P.S. Thanks for clarifying, ladies! You learn something every day. Congrats on your baby!

Maybe your state pays disability, but I live in Minnesota, and moms don't get it here.

My OB certified me as temporarily disabled for 8 weeks because of a C-section, and I got paid 65% of my salary for 6 weeks (I had to use 2 weeks of personal time before the disability kicked in). But the money came from my employer, not the state. Or maybe it was from a worker's comp fund or something, but the check was issued by my employer.

After those 8 weeks, it was back to work, or stay out another 4 weeks with no pay.

With my last baby in 2003, I had to wait 15 days after I had the baby before the short term disability kicks in. I'm currently 25 weeks pregno now. You will not be able to get the disability pay for the days before you have the baby, unless your dr puts you on bed rest or some kind of restriction from work. Congrats!!

At my organization you must use your closing holiday and unwell depart after which rise up to six weeks at a curb pay cost. At my husband's organization, nonetheless, you'll get 12 weeks at complete pay in case you've been there for greater than 10 years. That being mentioned, incapacity does not role off of bonding time. That's beside the point. I've on no account heard of an American organization giving females 6 weeks of paid "bonding time."

I don't believe people on maternity leave are eligible for disability pay. Companies are only obligated to give you 12 weeks of UNPAID maternity leave, and guarantee you a job (not necessarily the one you have now) when you return. It sucks, but at least there will be a job waiting for you.

I'm assuming you are from the US- if you are from another country it will probably be different.

Just so others won't give incorrect answers again, maternity leave is now under SHORT TERM DISABILITY, which is only given if you have a job. I got my check about 3 weeks after I went on leave. But I think it is different with each insurance company. I would check with your Human Resources Department.

why are you getting a disability pension, you are not disabled just having a baby?
How do you qualify for that as I'm sure the millions of mums around the world would like to know too.
When I go on maternity leave it is called that 'maternity leave' whether your company pay or not pay you makes no difference because you are not disabled
