My son is 8 days old. My milk came in the day after he was born. He nurses 20 minutes at each breast every 2.5hours during the day and every 4 hours at night. I pump twice a day for relief of my overfull breasts, as advised by the lactation consultant where i had my son. I pump about 10oz twice a day. Im freezing the extra milk. I dont remember having this much milk with my daughter!
I would just like to know how long it should take before i dont have such an abundant supply? Thanks!

my milk supply adjusted on it own when my son was about i month old. I would advise you not to try and empty your breast when you pump. The reason i am saying this is because when you pump 10oz your body thinks that is how much your baby needs. I know how painful overfull breast are. Just try and pump about 5oz for awhile. You will start producing less.
Big props on breastfeeding your baby!
I wish you much luck and happiness!
O yea you are going to think I am nuts but if your breast become really sore from the reduction of pumping.
Put like four pieces of cabbage in the fridge and get them cold . When they are cold put them on your breast . They will stop hurting !!!! I have no idea why this works but it does !!!

Does your son ever seem to choke or gag when your milk let's down?

I would suggest that-unless you're trying to build a stash b/c you're going back to work-you only pump enough to relieve a little bit of discomfort and not pump a full 10 oz. each time. That's A LOT to pump and it sounds like over supply to me (I had this too). So...continue to nurse him whenever he cries, but cut back the pumping to only pumping when you are uncomfortable and he refuses to nurse. And when you do pump, just pump enough to take the edge off.

What you're doing by pumping so much is confusing your body. It thinks that someone needs that much milk b/c you're asking your body to make that much by pumping and nursing.

I had an oversupply and it was about 6 months before my body finally got the message as to how much it really needed to make.

Good luck.

It took my body about 4 months to adjust. However, the engorgement and leaking generally calmed down at about 2 months. Good luck! You're doing a great thing for your child!

It adjust as he grows. It will slow down so it is a good thing you are over and abundant. Mine slowed down 2.5 weeks after birth.

your baby is old enough to get what he needs by himself you shouldnt have to pump anything unless you need some to give a sitter. your body will make plenty of milk to keep your baby satisfied let breast feeding is on demand so let him set your schedule now

Be grateful. I am jealous - I didn't have enough to feed my little boy. I still cry about it to this day. I pumped and mixed it with the formula I ended up having to give him.
