In my state the labor law age is 14 too, and I want a job too, what I plan to do is apply at a couple of sit down restaurants, and some retail places at the mall, the only thing about retail places is sometimes they pay you on commission which means that they pay you based on how much money you make selling the merchandise. You can also be fired because of commission. Unfortunately for me I won't be 14 for 6 months.

You can start working when you are 14 or older. The best bet for a job starting out would be at a fast food joint (McDonald's, etc.), a paper route, or possibly a department store (Kohl's, Walmart, etc.)
If you are 14 or 15, you can only work after school hours and during vacations. And you need to obtain a worker's permit. I got mine at my bank when I starting working. Good luck finding a job!

Yeah, the legal age is 14. 15 is the main age though, you must get a workers perment if you are still in school. I'd suggest McDonalds, Arby's, Dairy Queen, Kroger, Biggs, Walmart, ect.

It is legal, but requires a job permit.
The NY State Department has info about it here:
http://www.labor.state.ny.us/workerprotection/laborstandards/workprot/wptypes.shtm
Even then, be wary that it'll might be hard to find employment at that age. I recommend looking into retail (malls, shopping outlets) and food preparation, although I'd personally prefer having retail (as "customer service) on a future resumé than food prep.

In China you could get a full-time job at 7. Lots of child labour working on Olympic facilities.

You can definitely work. You need to be 14 to get working papers so you're good.
Well, there is the ever ((I don't know how to spell it)) CLEE-SHAY local McDonald's with you working good hours, but probably making less than minimum wage. Or my sister worked at Playland in Rye one Summer. Good pay, but CRAZY hours ((well she was 18)) I think they hire 15-17 year olds for kiddie land.

Get a work permit. If you cannot find a job, however, think up what people need and offer that. Network like crazy, asking everyone in your circle, parents' friends, relatives, etc. if they know of anything out there. And hang in! Good luck.

Well McDonalds starts hiring at age 14. Pretty much every fast food restaraunt will hire you. My sister worked at k-mart when she was 15. If there are any Mom and pop stores like a family owned store in the mall or whatever they will probably hire you too.
Hope I helped you out! ;-)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned baby-sitting or landscaping which, of course, is generally under-the-table to you don't have to pay into the government-mandated Ponzi scam (a.k.a. Social Security)
