i have a question on a DIY co2?

how much yeast, suger, and water would you sugest for me to put in a 2 litter coke bottle for a 40 gallon planted tank and please make it safe for fish and about how many day do you think untile id have to change the coke bottle and refill it with more suger yeast and water and also how can i make a bubble counter to make sure its not that much co2

NOTE: Dragonfly is right about the reason these only last so long. The yeast produce the CO2 gas, but over time their waste products build up in the bottle and they can't survive in those conditions forever.

I would fill the bottle with about 1 (or slightly more) disposable cup full of sugar and fill the bottle to 4" to 5" from the opening.

For a 40 gallon you probably need two bottle.

Each bottle last about 1.5 to 2 weeks, I don't really understand whats the limitation for that. It could be shortage of sugar for the yeast, solution becoming too acidic for the yeast after that time or too much waste for the yeast to survive after that period. But thats another issue altogather.

I believe you can buy a bubble counter cheap, if you want to make one you need a small transparent plastic bottle, some silicon and some air tube.

WARNING : In no circumstances should you ever let the sugar solution flow into the tank, it's will creat a mess and your fishes might die if not resolved fast. That mean you must ensure that the bottle never topple.
