Did anyone ever go to their obgyb and get an ultrasound done before giving labour in 2 weeks or so and found out their babies weight..? now i was wondering was the weight the Dr. gave accurate or ended up being "less or more" than what your babies weight was when she/he was born?? Just curious.. how accurate can the obygyn be ??

They are only giving you their best guess. Ultrasound is not a perfect science and they are very often wrong in their calculations.

They were off with both of my babies. Estimated my son would be just 5 pounds. He was 6.5 at birth.

They said my daughter would be 6 pounds. She was 7.3

I had gotten an ultrasound done just to guess the weight with my second pregnancy because of how much weight I had gained. I was 38 weeks as far as the doctors knew and the weight determined by the ultrasound was 14 lbs... with that they induced the labor and he ended up being 10 lbs 2 ounces and since they can check after the babies born to tell the exact age I found out that I was really 44 weeks when he was born... So in my case it was off, but everyones different...

In the last weeks of pregnancy - the weight estimations from ultrasound can be off as much as 3-4 pounds + or -. I know a woman who was told that her baby was going to be over 10 pounds so the doctor wanted to do a c-section and she agreed. When the baby was delivered he was just over 7 pounds.

On the day I went into labour I was sent for an ultrasound to see if my baby was gonna be too big. I can't remember the exact figures but what they estimated was extremely close to his actual birth weight. There was not much difference at all.

It is common to make at least 2 and often 4-5 measurements to estimate gestational age. In most cases, BPD, Head Circumference, Femur length, and Abdominal circumference are used.

No formula for estimating fetal weight has achieved an accuracy which enables us to recommend its use. It should be noted that errors are reported for one standard deviation only and that even at this level the accuracy is disappointing. It is suggested that there may be an improvement in accuracy of about 5% in using two rather than one parameter.

I don't think they are that accurate at guessing the weight. My doctor never does an ultrasound to guess the weight. I think when they do "guess" the weight, it's usually off by a pound or so.
