It totally depends on the woman's preference.
Some women hate to get things "for the house" , I wouldn't ever mind getting some appliance or gadget for the house. I seldom spring for the big stuff for myself, so it's nice when someone else does.

Here's the rule. If it has a handle, it means work. Mother's Day and Mom's birthday are all about giving Mom a break. So, logically, an appliance would not be an appropriate gift.

Honey, my mother always said not to buy her anything that plugged in for a gift. Most women that I know are the same way. Unless, we specifically ask for it.

She did not want somthing that she had to use to take care of someone else.

Go for a gift certificate for a manicure or pedicure or a spa gift certificate. Or a special dinner.

Also, DO NOT ever order flowers for a women if a bill will be sent later and she pays the bills. We feel like we have to pay for it and it is a waste.

If it's for a mom or grandmother ~ yes. If it's for a girlfriend or wife ~ HELL NO. As for the other women like sisters and cousins ~ I would say that depends on if she really needs one or not. Just because men like tools ~ doesn't mean women do (and appliances are tools)

Only if you want to get you ZZV kicked!

The difference is that guys think power tools are cool. Women see appliances as tools of servitude.

Buy her a Porsche.

The difference is men see power tools as toys. Women see kitchen appliances as more work. Guys just wanna build and build. Not all women want to bake or clean. She'll smile and nod politely at your gift. She won't tell you she hates it.

Nope! Better to make it a personal gift for these 2 occasions. Save the appliance for x-mas.

No, at least not to most women. I'd be happy if my husband bought me an industrial food slicer or some items from Pampered Chef...but not every woman is like me. My best friend was furious with her husband, after he bought her a vacuum cleaner for Christmas.

Be safe and stick to flowers or a gift certificate to a spa!

As a woman I personally would not mind a kitchen appliance at all

YES ~ those type of thing aren't for HER enjoyment those are needed for everyday living. If you're stumped on what to buy her get play it safe and get a gift card. Guy get tools because they crave them & it's a contest between them. He who dies with the most toys wins, or some bull$h!T.
