is it true that in order for contracts to be legal that signor is required to sign in black or blue ink? i thought i remember hearing something like this in a business law class.

Not true. Black or blue copies are lot easier,to read and photocopy but you can sign a contract in pink or purple and it is legal and binding so long as the other requirements are met.
