i know that when one is on the pill and they go on antibiotics, a back-up method is reccomended

i am on antibiotics for a urinary tract infection and i use the nuvaring as my birth control

....so, do i need to use a back up method while on the antibiotics? my obgyn's office didnt say anything like that....

No--the Nuvaring is one of the few birth controls that aren't effected by commonly used antibiotics. I had a UTI several months ago and also use the nuvaring and was never told anything either so I researched it then.

no you dont, the medication in the ring is not subject to the liver clearance therefore no effect on your birth control. btw, there are very few antibiotics that actually affect the pill if you take it as directed

The hormones in pills are processed in the liver. The hormones in the Nuva ring do not even go to your liver. Plus, the hormone levels are so low, there are no side effects.

antibiotics can cause spontaneous changes in your fertility and that's how a lot of women get prego. I'd wait to see you get period and use condoms because it is very possible that you could be.

I would,all birth control interacts with antibotics.
