The cloned pet would not be the same as the deceased. I think it would have a different personality, even though the looks are similar.
I think it could be a choice, albeit an expensive and possibly unnecessary one that's already come to fruition. But hey, if it's a purebred, there'd be no need to find a mate and make a litter of many, if the original pet could be cloned.
I'm just playing devil's advocate here -- the whole practice seems kind of creepy to me actually.

No, that involves too much expense and I don't go to big expenses for my animals, no matter how much I loved them. Beside, the clone might be retarded or somehow imperfect and it wouldn't be fair to it, to have to live that life.

I'd love to have my two favorite pets be with me as long as I live-- but I know they are irreplaceable too.
