My apartment is about 230 sq feet in all and I only intend on using one for a few (perhaps 5 or 6) hours a day.

(We have pet rabbits and 90+ degrees is pretty unsafe for them.)

Thanks in advance.

depends on what size AC you use and HOW you use it
animals like humans adapt to their environment so you need to think about: once you start to use an AC for pets or people you'll have to continue
WHERE you live is a consideration also
before I went the AC route I'd try other things
1-where are your pets?
keep them low-heat rises
2-try a fan-especially ceiling fans to keep
the air moving
3-keep drapes and doors closed-the air can
still come in through an open window
through drapes but the sunlight which
heats things up can't

It depends on the electrical line. Is it 110 volts or 220 volts?
110 volt will be at least 3 times higher than the 220.
High peak time is between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm, depending on the state. Every state charges a different fee and in the summer time the electric company's always charge more. Ours is $85.00 average with an inwall Air Conditioner, Central Air is much higher. 6 hours a day is a long time. Your apartment should be insulated in the walls and ceiling, but some older apartments don't have it. Also if you have drafty windows where the hot air will come inside, it will take much longer to cool down.
Some people buy what is called "swamp coolers", it is 1/10 cheaper than Air Conditioner. It uses water, either plumbed in or u can add it when it gets low. That will cut your light bill in half and still keep u or your rabbits cool Has this answered your question, I hope so!

Most people can get their head around it this way - you will be more familiar with how much it costs you to heat your home for 5 - 6 hrs a day, well use that as a mental guide as it generally is the same.
There are too many variables unless you want to go into it in detail to work out the kilowatt per hour an all.
Lucky rabbits, wish my missus was that concerned about me :))

Multiply the wattage of the appliance by the amount of time you will be using the appliance and divide by 1000 and then by the cost of power per kilowatt hour during the time you will be running the unit.
1000 Watt AC
6/hrs day
6kw/day * $1.00 = $6/day +/- 5%

Your bill won't raise much. The air conditioners are energy efficient and for the amount of time you want to use it, it won't be costly. bettyk
