ok so im only 16 and i think i may have memory problems. I can not remember things my friends bring up that we did a while ago. Maybe about a few months ago, but sometimes it comes back to me slowly but only in bits and pieces. I really wish i could remember things better. Also if i see a movie and the next day someone asks me how it was, i can not even tell them. I mean i remember that it was good or whatever but once again bits and pieces are missing and i really struggle to remember many parts to it. please help...is there something i can do or what?

Yes, like your body muscles memory can be perfected with exercize of the brain. Give it simple tasks to begin to observe a few things in a room or the title of books on the shelf (like 5-6) etc. Close your eyes and try to remember them in the order you saw it. Then go ahead and repeat them or write them down. You can do this with many things like shopping lists, phone numbers, names of people in a room (classroom) etc and train your brain. Soon you will find this will help your brain to be lot more active and retain things you loose quickly to memory loss. I beleive lot of this is due to function of passive brain activity like watching extended hours of tv at home which inhibits or restrains the brain from actively remembering events in real life. Hope this helps!

There are many reasons for having poor memory. Many people believe that the way that we remember things is merely to see it or hear it. It is not that simple. People need to focus and attend to what is being said. Repeating it in your mind after you hear it or taking notes helps you to remember it. Things you see are remembered by convrting it in your mind into a verbal message. Most people remember things that they see in terms of words. It is important to try to associate what you see and read with what you know. When you intergrate new information into old information you rehearse what you have just learned and what you know already.
People who do not remember things well are usually not focued on the here and now, they are thinking of something else while things are going on. Most people, when they are listening to others, are thinking about what they want to say rather than thinking about what the person is saying. I don't know how many people I have seen on cell phones in the movie theater or at a baseball game.
Well, that may give you some ideas.

Do you think you might have attention deficit disorder (ADD or ADHD)? This usually affects working memory, so information doesn't go into long term memory efficiently. If you aren't focused (paying attention) to the details, you won't remember them. There is a great deal of information on the web about ways to improve your memory. Try searching the American Psychological Association website. Good luck

It could be caused by stress, but it could be a medical condition such as low thyroid. So, have a doctor check your thyroid. If it's okay, but you're still forgetting things you should work on stress management. Do not take antidepressents right off the bat. They can make memory loss worse! Insist on a thorough medical check up and blood tests. Good luck.

You might try hypnosis. You can download a free "memory improvement" hypnosis session at www.free-hypnosisdownloads.com. Just save it to your mp3 player.
I've listened to this once a day for the last several days now. At the very least, I think the hypnotic suggestions in the session do improve your confidence in your memory - which could be half your problem.

maybe you just aren't remembering those things because they aren't important! i think if they were more important, or more meaningful to your life, you'd remember them. but what do i know?! i can't remember things either. LOL
