would lose?

Republicans did not defend him, but most voted against moving the resolution ahead.

Monday's vote was not the end of scrutiny for Gonzales and his management of the Justice Department -- more congressional hearings are scheduled and an internal department investigation continues.

The Bushies would not vote for the bid of no confidence but they could not defend Gonzo. . Is this an example of partisan politics of sticking to party lines regardless of what is right?

All these Republicans that scream that this is a waste of taxpayer money forget that they spent $42 million dollars and months of impeachment hearings investigating a bl*wjob.

Because they didn't want it held against them. Especially the Republicans didn't want to betray their party regardless of their own beliefs. Unlike Spector R-PA who has been outspoken and voted no confidence. Yet when Clinton lied about his sex life, the R's wanted impeachment. The R's held investigations about where the stamp money came to return replies for the fan mail for the Clinton's cat! So both parties do it and both suck. I think the American people are ready for some politicians who have integrity. Both these parties are like kids with huge sibling rivalry issues. They won't vote for what is best-even what they people want-because they are too busy competing.

Yes, it's an example of the kind of partisan politics that dominate in the US today. The vote, itself, was a meaningless ('on confidence' votes carry no force, they are merely symbolic) bit of partizan politics, as was blocking the vote.

Inept behavior and continual corruption from the right wingers to block the truth. Not a good thing come the 08 elections for the right wing Senators that blocked the legislation along party lines. The Republican Presidential nominees were included in the blocking vote too.

not a darn thing about the public concerns

Why would it matter if Gonzales lost? Congress cannot remove the attorney general unless they choose to impeach. A "no confidence" vote is a complete waste of time. If you don't have the balls to impeach, drop the issue.

Why is congress involved in a no confidence vote at all. What a waste of taxpayer money and their time. It is a meaningless vote that does absolutely nothing.

Next they will take a vote to say we should all smile and be nice to each other. Maybe they should actually be doing their job and listen to the american people and do things like authorize and carry out the entire building of a border fence.

Gonzales broke no law and it's the President's prerogative to remove him absent criminal wrong-doing.

Read Article II of the Constitution.

I cannot understand why most of these Republicans continue
to support Bush. Is it that they actually think the same.
Is it hatred for the Democrats. Is it that they are getting feedback that their district still supports Bush to a great degree. For the life of me I cannot understand why they have not turned on this man. They are cutting their own throats.
Unless the terror card is still good in most of the red states.
Maybe when Bushes ratings go sub 10% things will change.

Since the Dems are in charge now, why don't they come up with some real legislation instead of trying to pass these non binding resolutions? This is moronic! I have never heard of a congress that couldn't do anything like this one. That's what they are the do nothing congress!
