To avoid switching jobs this late, can you rearrange your finances and make some lifestyle changes so that you don't have to work after baby comes? You could also start putting money aside to cover expenses during the time right after your baby is born.

I looked into ways to make money at home so I could be with my kids.

Best of luck and congrats on your pregnancy!

My sister worked it out so that she could work part time from home for 3 weeks. She took 3 weeks completely off for her and the baby and used vacation time to make the ends meet and then worked part time from the house. She did a few things like went in for a couple hours two days a week or something just to smooth over the deal with her boss. It helped that she didn't take the full 3 months but she's in a position that she could never take that much time anyway. When the 6 weeks was up she went back to work full time. It's not easy to work from home with a new baby but you can make it work if you have to. Good luck!

Sometimes you can file for unemployment as you are not able to work. Some states allow it. Call your local unemployment office. I was in the same boat, but I was single so I planned ahead very carefully. I deferred my SUV payment, student loans, credit cards, etc. If you have a mortage, they should defer a payment, just explain your reasons. For everything else, I just saved like a miser to pay utilities, food, etc til
I went back at 6 wks post partum. Good luck, I know it's stressful, but it can be done !

I used to work at Perrigo's in Allegan Co., MI and they didn't offer paid maternity leave either. They made me take any vacation time I had before FMLA would even kick in. I left work 10 days before I had my daughter and came back 10 days after having her. It helped me lose the weight though.

I'd combine all my vacation and sick time together to use before and a little bit after the baby is born. Then find a sitter that you're comfortable with and go back to work in a week or two. This may not be your favorite option, but it can be and has been done before.

How far along are you? Start saving all you can every paycheck. Make sure you have enough in the bank to cover 2 months rent and groceries. Find a telemarketing job that will let you work from home - try craigslist.

Good Luck!!

Do you absolutely have to work (for financial reasons?) Trust me you will want to have your maternity leave. If I were you, I would quit that job and find a new one, or find a new one after you have the baby.
