The challenges, the frustrations, and the rewards. Did things change a way into the relationship, or was it the way things always were?

It means you pull more weight than you would otherwise. It means you have to have a lot more compassion than the average person. It means you need more patience than any of your extended family can understand. It means you get less done in a day (like maybe 10% of what you used to do) because you move much more slowly as a team. It means that your medical bills are nearly as much, or sometimes more, than your housing costs. It means you deal with doctors on a weekly basis, not a yearly basis.

It's exhausting. There are no rewards beyond what others get from their spouse. You have love. You do it for the love. You try not to let your spouse feel guilty for letting you carry the burdens.

I'm sure it's very hard. But if you love someone,it's got to be worth it.I wouldn't leave my husband if he became disabled and I had to care for him..I'd still love him just the same.
I can see where things would change, but I love him enough to care for him If I had to.

I would think it would be both mentally & physically exhausting, and hope that I will never know.
