What is the silver thing on the bottom of the float bowl with a plug connected to it? My lawn mower is running weird, is this a fuel pump? When the motor get hot, it sputters and stalls what's my problem?

mower ran fine the first 5 times i mowed with it, and when the connector is unplugged, it won't run at all

No it's just a float bowl drain so you don't leave gas in the bowl when not in use. Best to shut the gas off or run dry then drain the float over the winter so the gas doesn't spoil. Without knowing your maintenance habits it's hard to determine the problem,but it sounds like you need a tune up, and carb cleaning.

That is an electric fuel shut off. It has to be connected to get gas to the main jet. I would check the coil module. They will break down when they get hot. If it were the carburator it would run bad all the time.

Starving for fuel,carb dirty or float stuck.If it has a solenoid on the bottom of the carb.bowl,that would be a good place to start on the carb.
