Mushrooms will grow just about anywhere it is damp. There is most likely a problem with poor ventilation combined with either water splashing out of the tub/shower, or leaking plumbing. I would suggest talking with the landlord first, and see if he will get the problem fixed. He might not even be aware it! Don't go to the health department unless the landlord is being a total jerk; there's no point in needlessly starting trouble. PS do not eat the mushroom!

Hey there,
Mushroom growing is very easy if you know exactly what you're doing, and it's not difficult to learn the different steps involved in the process. You should by a good book with a step by step approach. This is one I recommend http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=573

For pity's sakes; calm down. You are not the first person to have some problems like this. Perhaps the landlord would like to be told about it first; before you start calling God and the Police and the Health Department. In fact, I can almost guarantee you that he or she would love the chance to take care of it. It would avoid problems in future, if he or she is smart.
Go talk to the landlord before you push the panic button.

Well it sounds like you have a ventilation problem. Fungi only grows in moist and damp areas. The bathroom is probably not properly ventilated and when you take showers etc, it is providing a perfect environment for mushrooms and mold.
This is a health concern, and you probably can get it fixed. However, it is not something you are going to get some huge lawsuit out of. Why dont you talk to your landlord first.

Yes you can grow mushrooms in a bathroom. One person in Colorado has them growing in their BATHROOM because of a very humid season. Before you begin I would look up a web site Fungi Perfecti. They have all of the necessary spores and equipment necessary to start.

Moving may be a good idea. If mushrooms are growing, then you have more mold and mildew than you know about. Perhaps where you can not see it...behind walls or under carpet. Mold and Mildew can make you very sick. It is also EXTREMELY hard to get rid of. To make sure it is gone, a professional cleaner may have to be called and carpets and walls may have to be redone.

Mushrooms are mold. You have too much humidity in the place. Don*t eat it, it may be poison. Cut if off with a knife and throw it away. I would ask the health dept about it. It could be your landlord has too much humidity in his place and you are the one paying for it. Mold does smell bad.

you need to find out why the area is stasying damp. that needs fixed first, then a fungicide can be applied. Wait for the health departments results first

probably the toilet flush water is leaking under the lino. but it should show on LL. ceiling as well? Tell LL., as the structure is his investment (which is way more valuable than your monthly rent). He is suppose to do a check between tenants to be sure the place is up to snuff for each tenant.
