I have seen people put a fan in the window pointing towards the outside with the idea it pulls the hot air out.

of course it is hotter in your room than outside. if you dont put exhaust fan in your room, then the hot air coming from your appliances or even your body will just circulate around your room. so we use electric fan as a substitute for an exhaust fan thats why it is placed on a window facing out.

in a building, you need a good ventilation to make it more livable, and exhaust has a great contribution to that,

after all EXHAUST is not an EXHAUST if it doesnt serve its name

If the air inside the home is warmer than the outside air, put the fan blowing out. Open a window on the opposite side of the home. If the air outside is as warm or warmer, the fan in the window won't help.

Quite frankly if you try this you will get minimal results.
You would be better off opening all the windows and doors in the house and blowing the fan onto you.
Buy an air conditioner if you really want some relief. It is better to be able to cool down 1 room and be comfortable than playing with fans and windows etc.

Only when the air is cooler outside, like at night. If it's hot outside you will also pull the outside air in if there are other windows open. It's more or less to circulate the air, especially if you don't have a ceiling fan.

It works; years ago that is all we had, before we could afford A/C. It really does work, espcially if you open a window in the basement a few inches, or barring that open a window on the shady side of the house to pull in cool air and blow out the hot air. Don*t open it more than a couple of inches though

Have an exhaust fan fixed at the ceiling level with a small opening to throw hot air out. The exhaust always faces out wards, Inside have fans to cool the air but then out side is hot so close all windows etc and shield windows with wet cloth even.

Every summer we mount a commercial fan in a basement window pointing out. At night we turn it on and open all the windows upstairs. In the morning we close all the windows and the blinds. It works so well that the house stays cool all day. It's a really cheap alternative to air conditioning.

Yes it will pull the hot air out and circulate the air inside.. if you have aceiling fan it would help to run it at the same time...

A more effective measure is to run the exhaust fan in your bathroom(s), and put a fan in the room you're in to stir the air.

It only takes an hour, in a 2000sf house, for a bathroom exhaust fan to take the hot air. Makes it 5-8 degrees cooler quickly!

The fan will move the air in the room - it may not create a lower temperature but mthe air will circulate.
