The justice system is definately flawed. However the problem with vigilantes is that they can sometimes go too far. If we allowed vigilantes there is a very good possibility that someone innocent may get hurt. Also mob mentality is something else to worry about. Dont forget the KKK thought they were doing what was right when they lynched african americans. Vigilantes do not necessarily have the same values or ethics as everone else so it can lead to problems.

Well, most vigilante groups carry things too far. The KKK was started as a vigilante group. Look at them today. I know that is not a good example. Even the neighborhood watch group here where I live are all power freaks and think they are real cops. They try to pull us over with their little yellow light and follow you home and try to tell you they think you were speeding. They are a nuisance.

Although on the surface, it sounds like a great idea, someone taking the law into their own hands, is not good. Over the years, I've seen many pedophiles, and drug dealers, and general scum. Someone executing these people sounds like a terrific idea, but this would only lower the person to the standards of a murderer. Murder for any of these reasons is not right.

And who would justify the vigilante's actions? A renegade judge?

I think the only problem with them is that they do not usually have any professional training and it would be alot easier for one of them to get injured or killed

There is also the question of rules and where to draw the line

example...If an innocent guy gets mugged , who decides the sentence , do they beat the perp up or take his wallet?
