The only thing I've heard relative to your question is:
When people who retire from their jobs and they had no hobbies or other interests, tend to die very soon after retiring.

It is SAD. People need to have a more well-rounded life to continue living after they retire from their jobs.

Such is not so simple. That is a factor, but other things tend to be factors as well. People can choose death for many reasons. Some call it giving up. Others call it mourning. Some animals have been said to mourn themselves to death at the loss of a mate or master. Who is to say that people do any different. Sometimes it takes more effort to live than a person has to give. Life requires energy. That is fact. Life requires that the body works...the whole body. When an organ or the mind fails it hurts and makes life much more difficult. It might be easier for the mind to fail completely rather than to hold on to a little use. Futility is a tough feeling to overcome.

Again, no simple answers. Just more questions.

I haven't studied the Baha'i' faith as much as I want to ( and I will study more ). But what I have read was very enlightening. In some ancient texts it is said that Jesus studied it. I don't know if it is true or not. But there are great similarities in some of Jesus teachings and the Baha'i' faith. While I am and will remain a Christian I will say that the world would be a better place if more people took their sayings to heart (instead of thinking they do, like most Christians today). Whether it be Jesus or Baha'i'.

Old people die from being old. Besides, there really is no purpose to being here. It's the illusion that we have a meaning that inspires us. The trick is to know the truth and want life anyway. Why not; it's free, and you always get to check out when the time comes. Enjoy.

No....sometimes you just drift through life, marking time. A new purpose will come along sooner or later. You just have to be strong enough to wait for it. Or, better yet, go out and seek it!
