How do octupus manage to match their color of their sourounding when they are color blind?

Octopus (cephalopods) actually have keen eyesight. They can distinguish the polarization of light( the amount of electromagnatic waves) which enables them to match their surroundings. So, they don't see color they feel it. For an explanation of polarization see:

Didn't know they were colorblind. Wouldn't matter though, whether they recognize color or not color changes could be an autonomic response not requiring the octopus to be aware of the colors or patterns in their surroundings. I will have to look into this, just the kind of thing I like.
