Cable. DSL requires you to install filters on your phone lines (That cut down on the interference in your regular calls because of the DSL signal). However you will still get some interference. Also, as of right now, the speeds on Cable are much higher. You will sometimes get degredation in speed when there are alot of users on your cable provider's network, but given the advertised base speeds (of between 4 and 6 Mbps) it's still often faster then DSL. Only thing DSL has going for it is price. Some providers are offering it for as little as 24.99 a month. Cable internet averages about 35.00

DSL. Cable can claim bigger maximum theortical downloads, but they are shared with as many of your neighbours as have Cable. If it's all of them, you are screwed.
For DSL the contention ratio is largely decided at the exchange. 1:1, 10:1, 20:1 are all aimed at businesses, 1:1 being chokingly expensive. 50:1 and 100:1 is typical for respected ISP's for home users. Some companies can take the ration down much lower, but terms like 'cowboy' and 'shyster' come to mind.
At 200:1 or worse you'll just know because connecting or even staying connected will be a nightmare at peak times and playing realtime online games will be near impossible.
You even wonder why some people have to 'dial in' to connect to an always on line...?
Ultimately you get what you pay for.

Cable. In my experience, lots of things don't like to work with DSL, and it's not very reliable. Also, cable is faster. But, with cable, you have to put it in a place where the cable line isn't split alot, like to go off to many rooms. But nowadays, everyone's shutting off lhere landlines and going mobile, so you'd about have to have a dedicated line for DSL. Cable is a whole lot better, once you get it working ;)

Cable extreme velocity internet provider is swifter and in many cases greater in fee - $50-55. DSL extreme velocity internet provider is a sprint slower than Cable yet is likewise a sprint greater value-effective - $30-40 5. DSL Starter Plans are in many cases a mid selection velocity of DSL meaning they're lots swifter than in many cases happening Dial-up for around a similar fee yet they're lots slower than the extreme velocity DSL. in case you may no longer have adequate money the better fee of in many cases happening DSL or the main suitable speeds (different than Fiber Optics) of Cable then the DSL Starter Plan is very lots in the experience that your telephone type and tackle qualifies.

DSL is a constant speed while cable may be faster at times, when a lot of users are on at the same time it may get slower than DSL. It depends on where you live really, I would say a big city DSL is what you should get

Really depends on the provider. Personally I prefer cable, but that's because I can get a steady 4Mb/s download... And the only other provider, DSL, was down all the time, and poor speeds.
What you really want to look at is connection speeds between the two.
However, if you are only using it for stuff like email, web surfing, chatting, sharing photos,... either one should be quite adequate.
Speeds really only count for downloads and download speeds. Faster the better for large files right?
Cheers

Cable is faster than ADSL but VDSL is fastest. See link below under Wide Area Network:
