This might sound like a silly question...but it was something that came up in the class today (I'm currently a junior in high school). My friends and I asked our chem teacher, who said no, but our history teacher said yes.

One of my friend thinks that it'll be embarrassing to raise your hand during the middle of the lectures...I suppose that's true. But according to my history teacher, she said when you "got to go, you got to go" during three hour lecture, or something.

So, would professors allow you to go to bathrooms or not? Oh, do you have to raise your hand? Or just leave quietly and come back?

Please give me a decent answer...not "wear a diaper, etc", unless that's what you really do.

You've gotten good answers but one other thing no one has said is that sometimes--especially if it is a longer class session--the professor will tell everyone to take a five minute break in the middle of the class.

I often do this in longer lectures because I usually split the class into two major topics and it gives everyone a chance to stretch and do whatever else needs to be done before settling in and focusing once again.

But even with that, if someone needs to leave the room at any other time, they just quietly do so.

Yes! You are indeed allowed to go to the bathroom. You just quietly get up and come back when you are done with your business.

In colleges, you learn for your own sake and the professor doesn't really care if you are in the class or not (as long as you're not disrupting either way). You won't have to raise your hand or anything. However, some professors might feel otherwise and they will let you know.

You just get up and go. Leave quietly and return quietly. I have not seen a teacher at college ever ask someone to ask permission or question why someone is leaving. It is just understood.

Any teacher that would make any issue about leaving for a normal human body function is plain wrong.

Yeah, normally you can go whenever you want without saying anything to the professor. There might be a few professors who don't like when you get up during their lectures but most professors don't care. That's been my experience at least. You have more freedom in college.

It's entirely up to them - some are more understanding, while others feel that you are disrupting the entire lecture by interrupting.

When in doubt, ask the teacher before the next lecture - preferrably during the first week of classes so that they don't feel put on the spot...

in many cases, professors dont care in case you step out of the room. Its no longer H.S., you dont prefer a hall bypass or something. in basic terms quietly upward thrust up and walk out, and gently close the door in the back of you. (dont take your stuff, its too noisy to %. your stuff up). its extremely no longer a great deal for scholars to get out of the college room for the period of classification. even regardless of the undeniable fact that, there will be some professors that are complete administration freaks, and that they call which you will ask permission (yet thats no longer likely).
