Simple. Fair foreign policy. The extremism does not come from a deluded sense of religion, but rather an anger at being a pawn of a overbearing outside source. The extremism is coming from countries where the wealth/poverty disparity is heartbreaking. The US has propped up governments, businesses, and other institutions that have only benefitted the US interests and the financial wellbeing of the aforementioned. People that have jobs, food, education, healthcare and justice do not blow themselves up for the greater good. Instead of insisting that the people we support provide these things to the masses, we have only made sure that our oil comes to us at a reasonable price. While this has made the American masses comfortable, people in Palestine have suffered at the heavy hand of Israel, so that we can have a stronghold in the Middle East. Do some research and find out that despite the attrocities of Saddam Hussein we supported and armed him (with chemical weapons) so that we had an ally against Iran. Look into the relationship between the US, Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia and the Emirates. While these countries are allies, they do not reflect the "values" that we hold so dear. So to answer your question: Had the US TRULY tried to spread democracy and justice to these people in the past we would not be in this **** bowl now. Keep in mind that the American Revolution was started by "terrorist" from an underarmed, loose knit group of "colonists" that truly believed.
This is just a simple quip about an issue that has been festering for more than an 100 years. Please keep in mind that the American mentality (for the most part) does not go past that last 5 to 10 years, while the cultures we have been interacting with have a much longer memory. Everyone is not interested is what has recently happened to Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohan.

Islamic extremists are neither followers of Islam nor extremists. They are simply thugs and murderers of old women and children. For extremists they seem very run of the mill as far as mass murderers go.
They claim they are doing God's work, but nowhere in my readings of Islam can I find the passage where God says, "strap on a vest bomb and go to a cafe and blow up mothers and their children".
They do not have extreme interpretations of the Koran, they are making their views up as the go along
Their claim against the world is centered around wanting to go back to the good old days at the height of the Ottoman Empire. That was a time when Muslims held the most territory and controlled as much wealth as they ever did. Oh yes, they were definitely the worlds powerhouse at that time as well.
So if we gave them what they want, that would be to leave them alone with the lions share of the worlds oil and get out of the Arab counties. But remember that only 20% of all Muslims live on the Arabian peninsula and the surrounding areas.
The only way to give them what they say they want is to move to renewable energy sources and quit importing oil and gas from the Middle East. That way they can enjoy their solitude while selling all their oil to China.
Then when China gets tired of dodging car bombs the world will stand by and watch while two billion Chinese come across the vast Asian mountain ranges and up the Arabian Sea to take over the oil fields of the Middle East.
This I believe to be inevitable because if the industrialized world moves off of the oil economy that only leaves the emerging economies to buy oil, China being the biggest emerging economy. It is evident from past behavior that the Chinese don't really care about world opinion as long as they have veto power in the United Nations Security Council.
But going back to your question. How can we end Islamic extremism. The only thing they really want is the death of non Muslims (Americans first) or as they like to call us infidels.
So here are the choices; get off of the oil standard and move to renewable energy sources; invade all the Arab countries and subjugate everyone, surrender and give the extremist all non Arab lands.
There is a forth choice, we can sit back and watch the various extremist factions kill each other. If they stay at it long enough it may become a self correcting problem.
I suggest we work on the first choice.

Well, our issues with Islamic extremism began before we were even a country (the Crusades: the Christians did some horrible things to the Muslims). But we certainly didn't help ourselves out by getting involved in Middle Eastern affairs or by creating the country of Israel right in the middle of the Middle East and forcing all the countries to abide by that. Additionally, the main reason that Bin Laden is so mad at us is that we are stationed in and have many political relations with Saudi Arabia.
All that said, spreading democracy isn't being much help either. In Iraq, for instance, you could easily argue that it was at least stable while Saddam was in power (albeit a violent dictatorship, but stable nonetheless). Once we put a democracy in place, we wound up with what amounts to a civil war in Iraq and people dying everyday there. Obviously, military action has not been getting us too far in the Middle East. Iraq is a blood bath and amidst a civil war, Afghanistan is still occupied by us with no clear direction and a fading importance in the American mind.
It is also impossible to end extremism. It doesn't matter what it is, there is always going to be an extreme. People have differing viewpoints, and you cannot tell them otherwise. If a certain man believes that the US needs to burn, you're not going to convince him that he is wrong. Just like Bush believes that spreading democracy is his calling; you can't convince him otherwise.
What I believe we can do to help the situation, however, is to stop nudging into Middle Eastern affairs (though we then lose our influence over oil supplies) and to stop consistently siding with Israel, a Middle Eastern symbol of American arrogance and insensitivity.

The west ought to concepts its very own dammed organization. And Iran used to have a Democracy yet wager what? The West (US and Britain) overthrew it and adjusted it with the Shaw. in actual actuality, the Oligarchy that regulations us does not even prefer a Democracy in Islamic international locations. The Oligarchy that regulations us desires to in straightforward terms administration the wealth generated from oil and that's it. So if we ought to unfold democracy, we could start up interior the West first the place it particular in hell does not exist the two.

The problem is...you can't end extremism without ending extremists. Christians have extremists too, who protest outside soldier's funerals and who roll around with snakes etc...
The U.S. isn't responsible for dragging every other country into the 'modern age', and those countries have been living primitively in comparison...for eons. Not everyone thinks democracy is the best way. The only thing we can do, is step in when we HAVE to...when it's worse to stay out of it, than it is to get involved. We can continue to SHOW these countries how a democracy works (though the U.S. is a republic, not a democracy)...and hope that they eventually choose to step out of the stone age, and become democratic. Until then...other countries don't need the U.S. seal of approval in order to operate.

Certainly not by allowing Muslims to immigrate to the US.
They are immune to capitalism, democracy, freedom and other influences...they are a lot like ...MODERN LIBERALS.
Every other culture and religion respects a "host" country.
Not Islam...from day ONE they are taught that their religion is the TRUMP CARD and must dominate their lives.
Basically that is OK BUT...their religion also tells them to take over, not obey the law of the land, be apart from all the nationals, etc.

Wait! Who said we should be spreading democracy?
Democracy is probably good, but it may not work in some places or cultures. Or it may be that other reforms need to come first.
Our only role should be to act as a beacon of goodness. Allow the Islamic world to observe, learn, and implement change as they see fit. We need to stop interfering and using force to accomplish what we believe to be positive goals.

Well, the quickest way would be to nuke the place, turning all that sand into glass! (But I reckon that is NOT what you meant!)
The problem is, anything that would be helpful would be against their religion. E.g., women need to have equal rights, starting with casting off the veil, etc.
Everyone needs to have access to quality education. Again, that is against their religion. (if not against the Koran, it is against the extremist Muslim's viewpoints)
They need a free press.
They need an open market system; they don't need a Wal-Mart or McDonald's, their system of marketing is just fine as long as they make it accessible to ALL, Muslims, Jews, Christians, Curds and Wheys, EVERYONE.
They need to secure their borders, but allow for free commerce and allow people to visit their countries without fear.
That's just for starters...
