Is your elementary school PTA actually productive?

Yes, our school district has an awesome PTO. There is lots of parental involvement. We do have a lot of fundraisers, but the schools use the money we earn for extra things that the school board can't/won't pay for, such as teacher supplies, playground equipment, risers for the stages, art equipment, musical instruments, etc. We even furnished a complete computer lab with 30 laptops for each of the six schools in the district. We also have events that are just for fun- we have a Parent's Night Out once a month where the parents can drop their kids off at one of the schools for a few hours. We show them movies, play games, etc. We also have Family Fun Nights, with family activities such as a carnival, bunko, olympics, etc. We have a fine arts program where we display artwork make by the students around local community businesses and common areas. There are so many things that we do I can't list them all here. Maybe you could become active in your PTA so you can make some changes and make it more productive. Good luck!

Where my children go they are very productive. They work very hard. They do not send very much home. At the school we have a Math-a-Thon. We do not sell anything it is all up to the children. For every ten dollars they collect the child has to do 10 math problems and the school gets all profits. That beats selling anything. The child is learning and it works.

our PTA is really productive and has a lot of parent participation.. we just got a web site which really helps us get organized and stay on top of things.. you guys should get a web site it really helped us alot, here is the company we used hope it helps

Unfortunatly y grandaughters is..every week they send out something for the kids to sell overpriced low end merchandise.
