I love going barefoot! I go barefoot literally everywhere, including work, stores, restaurants, holidays and everything else, summer and winter. I guess it's a little easier here in the Netherlands since we don't have any myths about bare feet being illegal or particularly dangerous, but even in the US it's not against any health regulations, insurance companies don't require or even recommend footwear for customers, and it's not against the law to drive barefoot.
Btw, tapeworms can spread only by ingestion, so unless you're into the habit of licking your feet or putting them on the dinner table, there's no risk from going barefoot. Hookworm can enter through the skin but is very rare in the South since modern plumbing has replaced the outhouses and never was a problem in colder climates.

No it is just a myth. Think about this, your hands are bare and you don't get sick from that. It is the same with feet. It is very healthy and good for you to go barefoot. I go barefoot at home because I just like to as well. I also walk around in bare feet outside a bit and my doctor tells me I have very healthy feet. So do not worry about comments other people make, it is important that you feel comfortable and not sacrifice that just because your mother says it is bad for you. You will find a lot more evidence supporting going barefoot is healthy than against it. Hope that helps.

I walk barefoot everywhere, on rocks, in the street, when I drive (oops did I say that...LOL) it just feels more natural to me...and I like my feet, my toes are nice, not funny looking feet...so I like polished toe nails and go bare foot:)

i only walk barefoot indoors. i find that walking barefoot outdoors, whether its in the grass or on driveways and sidewalks, feels weird. and i always seem to worry about what i may step on. i have seen people walk on gravel, and that amazes me.

yes i do but only at home you never know what you might step on out there. now in the country some places I like to like the lawn or on the patio but not on the drive way because sometimes the cars leak oil and who wants their feet black.

indoors its fine but you could get splinters if you have old wood flooring. there are much worse things you can get in your feet outside besides glass such as tapeworms, hookworms, and etc.... especially if there are pools of water out after it rains. be careful
