Writing a story with a moral in mind will likely fail, because you'll be constantly compromising character actions and plot events for the sake of the moral. The moral, if there is one, ought to woven into the characters and plot; there shouldn't be a separation between purpose and practice. Unless you are writing a fable or a religious doctrine, I would stay away from moralizing. Most readers don't like being preached to.

If you set out to write a story with a moral, it will come across preachy. Just write from your head and heart, and you will see the morals you believe in most strongly mirrored in your characters and story.

What you see isn't always what you get.

Love is giving someone the power to break your heart, but trusting them not to.

You know more than you think you do.

It's hard for people to love you if you don't love yourself.

Always leave room for people to change if they want to, don't assume who they are.
