If you have never read any of his books, Sidney Sheldon was the absolute master at creating a story that you could not put down. I suggest you try The Other Side of Midnight, and Bloodline, but any of his books are just great fiction and a good read.

Right now, I am reading the Memory Keeper's Daughter. I'd also suggest the Lovely Bones, Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch and Wold War Z.

My all-time favorite choice is Wicked by Gregory Maguire...it's about the witches of oz, but it's a lot deeper than you would think....i'm going to recommend it to everyone!
other recommendations of the books that interested me the most are:
*Of Human Bondage by M. Somerset Maugham-a beautiful book about a man who is looking to find himself and meets a beautiful waitress along the way-it's one of those books that could change your life!
*The Color Purple by Alice Walker-about a black woman struggling under the oppression of being both black and a woman
*Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison-a black man struggling to find himself and then investing in this private society that strives to join both whites and blacks against segregation (it takes place a couple of generations after slavery has ended)
*The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton-this is about a woman who comes into a high New York society and turns it on its head
*Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton-about a rural family-a man falls in love with his wife's cousin but it is a forbidden romance
*Warrior Woman by Maxine Hong Kingston-about a Chinese-American woman wondering who she is and using stories told to her to create a mosaic of herself
*1984 by George Orwell-a futuristic book about a society that took over the world and controls it completely
hope this helps!
