Age starts before one is born and we dont actually count a persons birth to be the 1st bday and if u count the total of years as days , min, or sec u would sound as though u lived longer. Age is simply the time alotted for one to live until entering into the next world.

One year more than it would be in Japan. There, they start counting around birth, as Natalie F suggests. So, when we celebrate a child's first birthday, they'd be celebrating his or her second.
