They will never get there until management makes the decision they want to be competitive. They do not participate in the free agent market to any extent and their payroll is very low keeping quality players away from Kansas City. I believe it is going to take new owners and/or a move to get the team going. The fans sure do deserve much more than that.

Man, they've had some teams every once in a while where it seems like they may be able to finally do something...but it never turns out to be the case. Back to a few years ago with Beltran, I thought they had a window that obviously closed since. Now they're in a very competitive AL Central division with lots of egos and players in Detroit, Chicago, and Cleveland. They seem destined for the fate of the Nationals/Expos. You never know what can happen with a team because had someone asked the same question about the Brewers two years ago, they'd be getting a similar answer, but now they have a decent shot at winning their division. Hopefully the same can happen for the Royals because it's nice to see new teams in the mix.

I think Dayton Moore is getting them on the right track, but it will take some time. Their pitching is drastically improved over previous years, and KC has a lot of young arms coming through the system. With young talents like Alex Gordon, Billy Butler, Mark Tehan, and David Dejesus, their is a good young nucleus to build around.

They are starting to show some life in the free agent market as well, but they still aren't going to be able to go hog wild like some of the big markets do. The key with the Royals is patience and they need to keep working hard. I think they will get there, and be there before a lot of baseball fans know or realize. The whole organization was a disaster for a while there and the winning attitude needs to be brought back. That doesn't happen overnight.

There is one thing that will make or break their chances for getting back to the playoffs - the front office and ownership. Glass has started to let them spend some more money the last few years. Now they just need to start spending that money wisely (no $55 mil contracts to Gil Meche types). I would say, assuming that Glass still keeps letting them spend more money, that it will be at least 4 years. They've got a lot of talent in the minors that, if developed properly, can help the team win some more games. They're going to have to start winning and finishing higher in the standings before they'll be able to draw those big name free agents that are needed to accompany the young talent and help carry them to the playoffs.

GO ROYALS!!!!!

I am old and they were a great playoff team in the old days.
I was at the Yankee game when Chris Chamblis of the Yanks had a homer agains the Royals in the late innings and the Yanks went to the WS

The Royals were a great team in the 70-80s

It can happen again.

The Mets turned around.

The Royals do a good job developing their young talent. The problem is they can't hold on to it b/c they can't compete with the salary levels of today. Once they get solid ownership in there willing to spend the dollars they should be consistent winners. I know this sounds crazy talkin about the Royals but their list of homegrown talent in the league right now is pretty substantial. Alex Gordon is gonna be the next one. Sadly he'll probably be the next one to leave...

They have been playing well lately, so they are getting better. The point is, they cannot trade away their potential OR established stars, and they have to build up a strong pitching staff. Then they will be ready to make a run at the playoffs. They are on their way. KC fans deserve a contender!!

Meche in 2007, Guillen in 2008 and now Farnsworth and Coco. followers probable can not see via that considering that they're chuffed a small industry team is spending funds, which they might desire to be chuffed approximately. they're basically spending it unwisely. What they might desire to do is sign John Lackey next 12 months.

Probably 5-10 years. Since they've been finishing last place so much, they're getting a lot of big prospects, give it some time, and they'll have a bunch of great players.

Between 5-10 years. Without the salary cap they would have no chance.
