I would like to make a variable resistor that I can adjust from about 100 ohms to 1 million ohms.

Can someone draw up a circuit diagram for this?

Just get a 1 Mohm pot and connect the wiper in series with a 100 ohm fixed resistor. That will give you a 100 to 1,000,100 ohm variable resistor give or take tolerances on the components.

The circuit diagram is a squiggly line with a perpendicular line half way down the squiggles. There's usually an arrow on the perpendicular line pointing at the squiggly line. There are three connection points on the diagram. One on each end of the squiggly line, and a third on the perpendicular line opposite of the arrow.
