So is road construction, sewage maintenance, water distribution, education, and the fire department to name but a few. I think we should keep the police, if for no other reason than they merely fight crime. I am not up to that job myself.

There are varying degrees of socialism. There is a difference between taking a small amount of your income as tax out of your pocket for the essentials like police protection and, well, roads and taxing the $hit out of you for things you dont want or need or want to handle differently.

In favor of what...vigilantism? The police serve a purpose in modern society of any country. It's just that the police get subverted and used in a Communist controlled situation.

Most policemen/policewomen are reasonable human beings like the rest of us. If you obey the laws, you stay out of trouble.
This is esp. important if one has been in trouble with the law previously.

For the poster above " the military is non profit" in your dreams, Dwight Eisenhower warned of the build up of the industrial military complex we have today, Honey why do you think Blackwater, Haliburton, KBR, Mcdonald Douglas, Etc exist, war is often about profit for many in authority or with power

Police departments aren't a form of socialism, they're called infrastructure. If all police departments are privatized, that would be anarchy. You're arguing that anything that isn't anarchy is socialism, which is false.

Our country has social programs. That does not make this country socialist. However, if we did that, I guess we would have to eliminate schools, roads, hospitals, Universities, parks, fire stations and anything else getting a penny from the government.

no. people just need to realize the US is a mix of socialism and capitalism. that is what makes this country what it is.

edit. the amount of money that police and the courts "take in" is exceeded by the waste

Agreed. On that note we should eliminate the military. They are also not for profit and run by the gov't.

actually they create a great deal of revenue by way of traffic and parking tickets. they also take in some pretty large drug bust money at times, not to mention confiscation and auction of personal property used in drug busts. so not your typical socialism.
overall your question is a stretch.
