i've heard here & there, & have even been known too say this one
"i could give a rat'sass!"
sometimes there more than one "rodents behind" suggested in the phrase. but really, do you have such things to offer on hand? & more too the point, WHEN & WHY DID THIS PHRASE ORIGINATE FROM?!

Next time you have the opportunity, go look at the rear end of a male rat. You will note male rats have remarkably large scrotums which are not very attractive.

I'm guessing the phrase came to being because the rat's rear end (male) falls in the same desirability category as the the other words used in the phrase,.

( a pet store will provide the best view a male rat's ***)

(female rat bottoms are just fine)
