if a juvenile was detained in a juvenile dentention center until the hearing, and if the parents get a lawyer to defend their child during the trial, can the juvenile discuss anything with the lawyer while being detained? Or is that left to the parents? thanks

No, it doesn't matter who pays for the lawyer, it only matters on who's behalf the lawyer files his appearance.

If the lawyer represents to the child that he is their attorney, any information given them is protected by attorney/ client privilege!

By law, juveniles who are charged as JD's have a right to an attorney, whether paid for by the parents or not!

If an atty, is being obtained, it sounds like this juvenile will be charged as an adult - and if being charged as an adult, i would say, yes he can say anything to his atty.
