Do you think that it is right that most people look up to people like football players and athletes or celebrities instead of doctors and people in charge of charities that help to change lives? I'm not saying that all celebrities dont do anything to help the majority of people. I know that some atheletes help to inspire kids to be more healthy (which we know is a major problem in the U.S) but shouldnt people that save lives and show good moral values be looked up to? instead of celebrities that sometimes might show something negative(not saying that they all do..but most have done something) what do u think?

Being able to sing, act, throw a ball or whatever does not mean you are qualified to act as a role model for anything. A big paycheck or celebrity does not automatically make you a good person. And you don't have to be a doctor a head a charity, either. Think about the people who don't have much, but still give to and help others. They are the role models we should emulate.

I completely agree. I think people should admire, respect, and look up to the real heroes in our society such as the doctors, policemen, firefighters, and paramedics work hard every day, often with little or no grattitude. I think it's unfair that celebrities make millions and paramedics work harder, longer hours and make barely enough to live on. But then EMS gets paid by the government and celebrities get paid based on the profits they make for selling records/movies/etc. Still sucks though.

But then again I'm biased, being one of those under-appreciated medics.

I agree with you a.k. Some celebrities and athletes have been charged with rape, assault & battery, even murder. They certainly are not the ones to look up too. The ones that give of themselves and have good moral values are those that we can admire or strive to emulate; whether they are doctors or in charge of charities, athletes, or celebrities. Believe me, I have worked for doctors and with ppl on boards of trustees ....... sometimes they are not all they are cracked up to be morally either.

I think your absolutely right. As well as sports players getting paid 10's of millions of dollars compaired to people helping orphanages or some other sort of charity and struggling to raise funds to provide for others....it's rediculous, but that's our nature now a days I guess. It's become a world of Marketing & Entertainment.

Our society is totally messed up in that aspect. We worship people who can memorize lines and look good on a camera..and we devalue those who change lives and save lives. I have started not to support those athletes and celebrities who act in a way that I don't like. I won't go to their games, buy their tickets...it's a little act...but makes me feel better.

I absolutely agree. One thing I do have to point out though; morality is relative, your morals, and my morals, and the morals of the people answering above and below me are al different. Other than that though, I agree, look at this dog fighting scandal with the Atlanta Falcons quarterback, look at the Paris Hilton scandal. It's ridiculous

We place WAY too much importance on athletes and celeb reties and way not enough on our child care givers and teachers and others who have done wonderful things like discover new medicines and help those in need. Our society has lost sight of what is really important.

I think as a culture we have our priorities messed up as far as how much people get paid. Why should a basketball player make millions, our guys in Iraq can barely make it on there salary and the teachers that teach our children have problem retiring because it takes all they make to live day to day.

Entertainment. Listen as a young person, its everything. Ask a 60 year old person, athlete or doctor, they'll say doctor because they want to be able to live longer cause he 60

As long as the person you look up to helps you be a better person in life, then it's not important what field they are from. I look up to all kinds of people and I let them inspire me.
