As a former child pageant contestant and a current teen contestant and National title holder I have to comment on this question... When I was little starting at 6 months old I was in baby pageants and then child pageants..My mom always put me in the more natural pageants that focus on natural beauty and not all the make up..fake lashes, hair extensions and flippers were not allowed in these pageants. I quit doing pageants when I was 4. I wanted to continue but my mom felt I needed to develop other interests so I took up twirling, tap, ballet and gymnastics (not all at the same time!) When I was 12 I pushed and pushed for her to let me enter a pageant..she finally said "yes" I didnt win but had a great time and wanted to do another one..I won a state title! It really built up my confidence and that year I went on to compete in 16 other pageants winning 13 titles and 3 first runner up titles. Last may (2006) I was crowned National Teen Miss and at 13 am the youngest to ever win that title. I am a confident, poised individual. My pageant experiences have opened so many doors for me. At 14 I am a professional model, have done several tv and radio interviews and had the chance to meet many celebrities. I get so tired of people that blame the pageant industry for everything. Little JonBenet was a pageant girl and that's all people remember about the story....How many other children have been abducted or murdered in the past year that ARE NOT pageant girls?? Believe me I have seen pageant moms that are over the top but the majority of the girls I see in pageants, even in the high glitz pageants LOVE what they are doing...these girls live to be on stage and it is what makes them happy! I have many younger "pageant sisters" from all over the country and they can not even imagine not doing pageants. Most of these kids will be far better prepared for the real world learning at an early age that "you cant always win" and the world is not fair. These girls know how to talk to a panel of judges...at 6 and 7 yrs old...when they get older and have job interviews it should be a piece of cake....Just watch Beauty and the Geek....physical appearance is important and the sooner you learn that the better....

Yes. These girls are going to grow up with the pressure of having to be beautiful all the time and thinking that the only thing that will get them somewhere is one's physical appearance. It's way too soon to have these young girls compare themselves to eachother. I think it's def goin to have some type of mental effect such as depression. I believe that little girls should all be told that they're beautiful and they shouldnt have to be involved in some pageant that might judge otherwise......

Very thrilling subject be counted. I had a possibility to reveal screen infants & Tiaras on TLC some month in the past. All i will assert is that i got here across it truthfully disgusting. gazing those little ladies with 10 pounds of makeup on their little infant faces on a similar time as prancing around in those skimpy outfits makes me prefer to vomit. what's even worse are the mothers and fathers particularly the mothers who stress their ladies into this freak coach. all of them say that they are instilling a healthful experience of opposition into their little ones. yet as i replaced into gazing the coach i could see the girls cry in the event that they did no longer win first place. i'm particular they bypass domicile thinking that they do no longer look to be rather adequate to win. From this stems lack of self assurance, anorexia and different unfavourable area outcomes. All i will assert is that i wouldn't in any respect enter my lady newborn right into a contest. i could extremely have her connect a basketball group. a minimum of she would be waiting to verify healthful sportsmanship, group artwork and different powerful skills without donning a bikini and bleached blonde extensions.

absolutely. children 6 years old have no business wearing lipstick and such, spending what should be unstructured playtime walking down a catwalk in thousand dollar outfits so the parents can vicariously become children again.

Thats the parents who have issues. And there was a certain child from Colorado who I have my own theories on about jealousy.

Yes. I hate seeing little kids plastered in make-up, wearing slutty clothes. Little girls should be playing with their Barbie dolls, not worrying if their fake tan is even. Whatever happened to being a kid? This pageant stuff is way over the top

Yes they are! Too many children whose mother's are putting them in this pageant and that pageant aren't really interested in the pageant at all, they just want to please mother. These mother's are usually control freaks that could care less what anyone else thinks!

It has nothing to do with the child...they are too young to know.

It has EVERYTHING to do with the parents...their dreams and their desire for fame.

Kids...just want to be kids and play around...not walk around with 10 kg of makeup on their face trying to look 21 when they are only 5!

yes! i think so, let them be kids seriously. its actually kinda scary to see them all dolled up. im a make-up artist and i would NEVER let my daughter be in one of those pageants. the most makeup i would put on a chile would be powder and blush and thats only if they were in a play. but i mean they put fake lashes eyeliner eye shadow on them the whole enchilada its ridiculous.

Probably.
But I think that being pretty is just as useful as being smart.
People are just angry because you can get smarter, but not prettier.
So if you've got it, flaunt it.
Plus those get you a good amount of money and scholarship opportunities.
