The drug crisis in America has not gone down. Many kids have access to marijuana, esctasy, and other hardcore drugs then a decade ago. People are doing drugs at a much younger age.

The War on Drugs has done nothing good; except prosecute the abusers and not the source of it all. If we really wanted to end the drugs we would have ended it a long time ago. All the meth labs in Columbia, Mexico, Honduras are still in operation. I guess it's cause fines and arrests are a necessity for the police and government to have work.

Declaring War on something does not make it go away. If we have learned anything from the War on Drugs its that we had an influx of drugs enter this country after we declared war on it. I hope the War on Terrorism doesn't do the same thing.

I think all drugs should be legal. Take away the crooks. Have them sold at a government drug store or a tightly controlled distribution center. Make a profit and spend 75% of the profit educating children on the hazards and problems with drug use. Use the other 25% to open treatment centers for the users.
If heroin was legal today would any of you go to the 'drug store' buy some smack, a needle and a spoon and shoot up?

No the war on drugs is a joke.

gross d that's an over exaggeration. the War on Drugs isn't going to put police officers out of work. People are going to need police officers all the time.

I do , think that drugs should be completely legalized. I'm not just saying Marijuana, or LSD or anything. I'm saying from weed to the most addictive form of black tar heroin. After we get rid of those laws, we institute a rating system on drugs. For example Marijuana would be registered as A, Cocaine B, crystal meth as a C, and Heroin as D. Sort of like Movie ratings are. Prescription medications are going to be under this rating system as well. Then once this is done, nobody should have a leg to stand on when it comes to prosecuting pharmaceutical companies. All that litigation and suing people for their problems would lower the cost of medicine on the rest of the public. You will know what you're getting into when you do whatever substance and nobody else is responsible for it. No lawsuits that cost us money and if somebody dies from a drug overdose, it should be just as if somebody dies from alcohol poisoning. There should be no federally funded rehabilitation facilities. Know that if you do drugs you are going to have to deal with the consequences. Don't make the rest of the taxpayers pay for your stupidity. I don't hate drug users. I am a personal fan of Marijuana, but I'm not going to do something stupid and go trip on acid or snort coke or Shoot up heroin. But if somebody does that, then it will be their own problems. It's time for people to take responsibility for their own actions. Down with the Nanny State!

Yes I do. I think plenty of people have been harmed, not so much by the drugs themselves, but the consequences of them being against the law, for what is essentially a victimless crime.

The truly idiotic thing is the nation did this already with the prohibition on liquor, and it was a horrible failure.

I'd like to see an experiment tried. Try legalizing Marijuana. Tax it, regulate it, sell it exactly as you do alcohol, study the effects, etc. for about 10 or 15 years. Were the overall results positive or negative, considering all the different factors like reducing crime, reducing gov't costs, increased health care costs, increased tax revenues, overall effect on the population etc.

Then take this data and make a decision about legalizing other drugs.

I think that declaring war on anything or anyone is only going to make a situation worse.

The best way to tackle drugs is to get rid of censorship and taboo surrounding the subject.

Why not introduce videos of people overdosing and dying to the high schools. Yes it's shocking. Yes it's going to traumatise the kids. But I'm pretty damn sure if little Billy gets to see a guy killing himself, I don't think he'll be all so very keen on paying for the priviledge to do the same.

Just going round saying "kids say no" is not going to help them understand the gravity of the situation.

If drugs were illegal then the FDA could regulate drugs and the users could at the least be a little less likely to die. The government would make money. But personally I think if drugs were legal then they would not be as "cool" anymore. It may take some time but maybe our youth would not use any more.

If the war on drugs was effective, our economy would crumble. I do think that they try t make it look good for the ignorant. How often do you hear about a large bust? Once a month at most, If we were at war it should be 10 per day.

If they put as much effort into this as they do to make sure people buckle up, then maybe we can make some headway. Think about it. There is this big "click it or ticket" campaign for the summer. Do they ever do an extra effort campaign like this for drugs? No, they don't. They need to get really serious.

If you legalize drugs then your prisons are no longer overcrowded and you don't need as many prison guards. You dont need as many police or judges. These people have unions, (well judges don't)

So when you say that the War on Drugs hasn't done any good, I have to answer that with saying that it keeps these people employed. Would you really want someone that is working as a prison guard, serving you food at your fast food restaurant??

When I was in school, I could not get my hands on booze because it was legal and regulated.

I could get any illicit drug that I wanted due to the profitable black market created directly by the fact that drugs are illegal.

When prohibition went into effect, it caused gang violence and shootings to protect sales territories just like it does now with drugs.

Bankrupt organized crime by legalizing drugs.
