My dog ran out of our house and down the street attacked a dog that was passing by. She's never done anything like this. We've paid the vet bills and the other dog just got stitches for a 1 in cut. We've gotten a notice from animal control saying we have to turn the dog in for inspection! We just dont' have the money for that fee or the fine let alone the cost to get her out of the pound and a new dog license. She's up to date on all shots and has no priors. The vet clinic the other dog went to reported this. Is there any thing we can do? I'm so afriad they'll upset her and she may snap at someone at the pound. She's never been to a kennel or anything like that. She's very shy too. I don't know what I can do! Any advice??

The dog is not a pit bull or any other "vicious" breed.

I feel for your issue, this must be very difficult to you. Unfortunately when you write a very detailed question like this a lawyer responding to this would be considered "practicing law" and they generally will not do that over the internet for various reasons. I would suggest calling a lawyer and asking for actual legal advice. Surprisingly there are animal lawyers out there. From a non legal perspective, I would say just to listen to what is required of you, and stay with your dog, trying to keep her calm. Things will likely be okay, it may just be a percausin

Have a relative or Friend keep the dog for a while and tell animal control you gave it away. Normally I wouldn't advise dishonesty, but I know how it is not to be rich. On the other hand, if your dog is a pit bull...... turn it in!

Well, I am not a lawyer but I can tell you that you are going to be forced to surrender the dog, she will have to be evaluated, you are likely to get a fine for that attack, and if she is labeled as dangerous you may not get her back. If you do get her back then you have to pay the fines, fees, and licenses. That's all part of animal ownership.

Comply. If the dog is as docile as you claim there shouldn't be an issue, if something has happened to your dog that has caused it to become violent all of a sudden (rabbies) animal control must do their tests to find out.

take your animal down to animal control. Bring all health record for your dog with you. Otherwise, you'll be faced with even more problems like a summons from COURT.

I'm no lawyer; but I'm sorry this happened to you. I would genually go apologize to the neighbor... (let them know exactly what happened and that you wish it hadn't) and if you are religious, a prayer or two wouldn't hurt....Best of luck to you!
Maybe you could call the SPCA and see if they know any group that could help you with the fee, etc.
