Do you think that smoking is a mental or physical addiction?

I'm just curious, because I have known many people to say it's physical, however, i quit after 4 years of smoking cold turkey and never even craved another one...it's interesting to me...

It's both...it's a habit (mental) and the nicotine is an addictive drug (physical).

I think it is part both...definatley physical with the all the addicting chemicals and additives they have in cigarettes. Your body craves it so much it is hard to stop due to the intense cravings. The mental is part of it too cause you are used to using the cigarette, it's become a regular habit and when a person is stressed and that is their calm down mechanism they reach for a cigarette.

I used to think it was only mental, but now I think it’s physical, too. It also depends on for how long has the person smoked and how many cigarettes a day.

It's actually both. The physical is nicotine addiction. The mental or psychological is also a factor.

For me personally, it isn't a physical addiction..I don't suffer if I go without smoking. We don't smoke inside our house, so for me, it's a way to get outside for a few minutes of peace & quiet...

Smoking controls what i do physicaly, and by doing so it controls me mentally as well. I don't think marijuana is a physical addiction though.

Both....I still have some cravings every once and a while...Thank God I am not alone, or I would now be going to QT to get some.
